What is the Asteroid Belt?

The Asteroid Belt is a region between Mars and Jupiter where millions of rocky objects orbit the Sun. These objects, known as asteroids, are leftovers from the early Solar System that never formed into planets.

Famous Asteroids in the Belt

  • Ceres – The largest asteroid, also classified as a dwarf planet.
  • Vesta – One of the brightest asteroids, visible with binoculars.
  • Pallas – A massive asteroid with a tilted orbit.

Did an Asteroid Kill the Dinosaurs?

Scientists believe a large asteroid impact in Mexico 65 million years ago led to the extinction of the dinosaurs. If a similar asteroid were to hit Earth today, it could cause global devastation!
